OUR GARDENS

The Bumblebee Bed & Breakfast's gardens are being created to attract butterflies, birds, frogs, and of course, the humble Bumblebee, and other small animals. These delightful creatures will provide joyful moments and are a pleasure to watch.

The natural areas of our 4 acre gardens are dissected by walking paths where you will find wild flowers and natural growth that is home to hundreds of smaller creatures. Wild flowers and native species of trees and shrubs are left to mature and continue their natural cycles.

Be on the lookout for birds and other small creatures that share this wonderful natural area. For those of us who like a good hike, a number of trails will lead you to the summit of the mountain behind our gardens. Once at the summit, you will be rewarded with a breathtaking view of Brigus and its location on Conception Bay and The Atlantic Ocean.

HISTORIC BRIGUS

Located on the north shore of Conception Bay, the town of Brigus was founded in 1612 and has a rich maritime history. The name "Brigus" may have derived from old English "Brickhouse," pronounced with the melodic lilt found only in Newfoundland. Historic architecture, stone walls, winding lanes and lush gardens are all reminiscent of English, Irish and Welsh Traditions. Within the Town limits lies a Canadian National park known as Hawthorne Cottage, the wonderful historic home of Captain Bob Bartlett. Captain Bartlett was recognized as the greatest ice navigator of his time and was involved in numerous Arctic Expeditions. Bob Bartlett was captain of the vessel for the US explorer, Robert Edwin Peary, who was the first to locate the North Pole.

BRIGUS BLUEBERRY FESTIVAL

Visitors come from every corner of the world to enjoy Newfoundland Hospitality. Every summer the Town of Brigus is transformed, as it hosts the Brigus Blueberry Festival with music, traditional foods, great home baking, beautiful handcrafts, dancing, and fireworks. The reason, of course, for all this festivity is the venerable Blueberry which covers much of the Island of Newfoundland.

SPECIAL INTEREST TOURS

We will be delighted to arrange tours of special interest for our guests

Photographic Tours. Hosted by The Bumblebee Bed & Breakfast's own Corey Boon, this tour takes you to experience some of the most breathtaking scenery of Eastern Newfoundland where you will be able to create beautiful photographs. The tour focuses on Brigus and surroundings.

Whale Watching Tours. The waters of Conception Bay on which Brigus is located provide some of the largest concentrations of Humpback, Minke, Beluga and Sperm whales. As many as 22 species of whales can be seen from the Newfoundland coast or Whale Watching vessels. Tour operators are as close as Holyrood, on Conception Bay.

Bird Watching Tours. Many visitors to Newfoundland come for spectacular bird watching as Newfoundland has countless nesting colonies of seabird species that rely on the productivity of our clear waters. Qualified operators and modern vessels provide safety aboard.
